Cultural Shiffts

After learning and always hearing about my parents past, I can't help but realise how completely different things were for them as young adults.  Parents had no fears about letting their kids outside to play or walk to school.  There was a sense of community instilled at a young age.  Children played and shared with their neighbors.  Now neighbors are no longer a support system like they use to be.  Values have changed a lot over the years.  Where as values use to be more family orientated and involve other people, now they tend to be selfish.  People are told to go to high school, go to college, get a good job, and be independent.  Were told as a generation to trust no one  but yourself and support yourself. This idea stops us from wanting to help others as much.  No longer does our society feel like we have to work together.  We have so much pressure to be the best when in the past being happy was enough. All these pressures consume the average Americans day.  We no longer have time to worry about anyone but ourselves.  Society has made us believe that we always have to put ourselves first.
