Cultural Shifts

I think in the past decade we have seen major cultural shifts in our society. One is that everyone seems to have heavy reliance on technology. With the increased technological advances it is like we don't need to remember or do anything anymore because everything is done for us via these technological advances. For example, I bet if we asked everyone in our class to write out five of their friends phone numbers they couldn't do it. Whereas before we had cell phones we memorized phone numbers like it was our job. Now that we have cell phones its like there is no need to remember these numbers but if you ever lose your cell phone you feel lost. Another thing is I feel like with the competitivness in the job market especially in todays economy, everyone feels as if they need to fend for themselves. Because of this, people are putting in tons of hours of work not only because they need or want to be the best that they can be but it ends up becoming a habit. With extended hours of work, by the time these people get home they don't want to do anything or just don't have the time to do anything. Whatever happened to the 40 hour work week? Its like it is non existent if you want to make money.
